Seeds are supposed to tell you how a bracket plays out. At Super 32, they told you about half the story. We went through all 14 weights and tracked every seed line, #1 through #16, from the opening round through the quarterfinals. The short version: the #1 seeds were perfect, the #5 seeds had a rough weekend, and 22 wrestlers seeded #9 or lower crashed the quarterfinals.

Elimination counts below are as of late Sunday morning, with consolation rounds still going. Follow the semifinals and finals live on our Super 32 hub.

Seed by Seed

How each seed line did across the 14 weights (made the quarterfinals / made the semifinals):

If the seeds had held, seeds #1 through #8 would fill all 112 quarterfinal spots. They got 84, exactly 75 percent. In the semifinals, seeds #1 through #4 got 41 of 56 spots, about 73 percent.

The #1 Seeds Were Perfect

All 14 #1 seeds are into the semifinals without a loss, and most of them weren't seriously tested. Melvin Miller (165) and Maximus Konopka (215) teched their quarterfinal opponents, and Justus Heeg (175) pinned unseeded Brock Frable in 1:08. One of the closest calls was Jason Dube's 4-3 win over Samuel Gehring in the Round of 32. Every #8 seed who reached the quarterfinals ran into a #1 there, and all seven lost.

The #2 Through #4 Lines Took Hits

Four #2 seeds won't wrestle for a title. #2 Niko Odiotti (113) was the first to go, losing 4-3 to #15 Nathan Schuman on Day 1 and then 13-1 to #9 Thomas Blewett, which eliminated him. Three more fell in the quarterfinals: #2 Slater Hicks (132) lost 1-0 to #7 Alex Marchetti, #2 Lazarus McEwen (120) lost 7-1 to #10 Aiden Garcia, and #2 Gabriel Ballard (150) lost 9-7 to #7 Greyson Music.

Among the #3 seeds, Jesse Grajeda (157) lost to #14 Chris Arreola in the Round of 16 and was eliminated by #11 Gage Lohr, Cam Bartlow (106) lost to #14 John Ross in the Round of 16, Turner Ross (113) was pinned by #6 Connor Maddox in the quarterfinals, and Joel Welch (175) lost 2-0 to #6 Kobe Cunanan. The #4 seeds split down the middle, with seven in the semifinals and seven out of the title hunt.

The #5 Seeds Had the Worst Weekend

Only seven of 14 #5 seeds even reached the quarterfinals, and five are already eliminated: Cooper Sandoval (120), Cael Floerchinger (126), Joshua Kerr (144), Thomas Schechterly (175) and Kameron Hazelett (285). #5 Knox Ayala (106) was pinned by #21 Max Lindquist, and #5 Angel Cejudo (132) lost 9-7 to #21 Reef Dillard, though both are still alive in the consolation bracket. Three survived to the semifinals: Arseni Kikiniou (150), Aiden Arnett (157) and Landen McDowell (165), and each of them beat the #4 seed to get there.

The #6 seeds weren't much better, with five eliminated and only Maddox and Cunanan in the semifinals. Meanwhile the #7 seeds outperformed both lines: 11 of 14 made the quarterfinals, and three (Marchetti, Music and #7 Caleb Noble at 113) are in the semifinals.

Chalk Weights vs. Chaos Weights

The Double-Digit Seeds

Twenty-two wrestlers seeded #9 or lower made the quarterfinals, and seven made the semifinals:

The deepest runs came from the #21 seeds, Lindquist and Dillard. At the other end, the #16 seeds went 0 for 14 in reaching the quarterfinals, and 12 are already eliminated.
