One week after winning Senior World gold in Astana, Bo Bassett made his college debut against the No. 1 wrestler in the country, and won.
Bassett beat #1 Luke Stanich 13-9 at 141 pounds on Friday night at Lehigh's Stabler Arena, and #4 Virginia Tech rolled past #14 Lehigh, 30-6.
A Battle of World Champs
It was a rare college matchup of two World champions. Stanich won U20 World gold at 65kg in 2025. One year later, Bassett won U20 and Senior World gold at the same weight.
Bassett got back to Blacksburg around 1 a.m. Tuesday after the trip home from Kazakhstan and was on the bus to Bethlehem by Thursday. Before the match, he told Baschamania he was "super excited to put it directly back on the line within a week" against "the #1 guy in the country."
Round 2 is already set. Bassett and Stanich meet again at the NWCA All-Star Classic on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Penn State's Rec Hall.
